Camas High School Sophomore Keely Wieczorek found a passion for soccer and pursued it for about thirteen years as a goalkeeper. With support and ambition, Wieczorek has made an interest, a talent that has taught her important lessons and helped her to become the person she is today.
Wieczorek’s soccer journey started when she was just three years old. Motivated by her dad to find a hobby she could enjoy and accel at, she came across soccer and fell in love with it. From there, she met coaches that helped her to develop her skills. With the help of her coaches, she found out she wanted to be a goalkeeper at the age of seven. Then, for five years, Wieczorek was a player for the Washington Timbers Football Club in order to play with skilled players and learn from coaches to develop her skills. Later on, in hopes of pushing herself more, she transferred to the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) where she currently plays for Crossfire and has played there for about three years. In the future, she hopes to play college soccer for a good school where she can also get a good education.
Wieczorek is very thankful for all of the help and support that she receives in doing something she enjoys.
Wieczorek said, “My family has always been my biggest support system.”
Whether it is supporting her financially, allowing her to take advantage of her opportunities, traveling, (etc.), Wieczorek’s family has been there for her on her journey. Not only has she been supported by her family, but she has been pushed by them to be the best she can be.
Being involved in sport has also helped her to learn and grow a lot.
She said, “Teamwork… It’s helped me to realize that there are things more important than myself.” Wieczorek further elaborates and emphasizes the importance of representing herself and her team in the way she acts on and off the field.
Since Wieczorek has been involved in soccer and been part of a community, she has had the opportunity to meet great people and develop relationships with them. Not only has it helped her socially, but soccer is an outlet for her to stay motivated and ambitious. She works towards pushing herself to achieve the goals she has set for herself.
