Camas High School was ecstatic at the game this last Friday when the impossible became reality in just under two minutes.
The beginning of this story dates back to the 2013 State Championship where Camas lost after Chiawana managed a comeback of two touchdowns with only a couple minutes left on the clock.
Now, Camas has come back with a vengeance. In a true act of Papermaker spirit, Camas managed to score two touchdowns in just under two minutes after a successful onside kick that Coerud’ Alene fumbled. “The turning point,” says Coach Eagle when asked about the game, “was the fumble by CDA in our territory, and the subsequent 97-yard drive to bring us to 25-20.”
This could be the start of another successful year in football and perhaps we can play at the Tacoma Dome once again. Seeing Friday’s game certainly brought hope into the eyes of all the Camas Papermakers. Coach Eagle agrees, stating “Coming from behind pays dividends in a big way. We will refer to this game as we progress through our season, telling our players that things don’t always go well and to keep believing.”
The football team exemplifies this quote and will continue to proudly represent Camas High School. Coach Eagle confirms that this victory will only make them work harder: “We were ahead at halftime. We knew we were in a battle with a very good team… We try to be consistent in our approach throughout the season, no matter our record or how the game is going.”
Next up Camas faces Battleground at Battleground, another stepping stone to winning state this year. Remember to wear white and come support the Papermakers. In old-fashioned spirit and to quote Mr. Marshall’s favorite saying, forever burned into the heads of the Papermakers: “GO PAPERMAKERS!”
