To continue the Associate Principal Week celebration, this article has been dedicated to another hardworking administrator at CHS. Susan Asher has held her position as Camas high for only three years, but has a lot of experience.
Before working at CHS, Asher was an associate principal at Belgrade High School, Mountain View High School, and Cascade Middle School. Prior to her time spent as an administrator, Asher taught social studies at Bozeman High school in Montana. She also taught social studies and physical education at Konawaena Middle School in Kealakekua, Hawaii. Along with teaching, Asher has experience in coaching varsity volleyball, varsity track, varsity cheerleading, and JV girls basketball.
At CHS Asher’s job includes overseeing the senior project, Camas After School Program, the Cornerstone Program, and the Integrated Arts and Academics. Asher is also in charge of supervising 22 teachers and 3 counselors, along with four classified staff members. The job also includes working with students grades 9-12 with last names A-G.
A job with this much responsibility also comes with a fair share of challenges; one challenge Asher faces is time. She explains, “There never seems to be enough time to work on all areas I oversee.” No matter the challenges Asher cares about her school community and the students, “I think all of us in education got into this field because of our love of working with students. Students are at the heart of everything I do.”
After working in the Camas district for three wonderful years, Asher is planning on retiring after this 2016-17 school year. With some thought, she explains she is looking forward to, “learning how to relax, vacationing in Bora, Bora, and buying a house in Palm Springs.”
To show appreciation for Mrs. Asher students can, “be proud of their school and respect each other as individuals. That is great appreciation.”
